Pallet Specifications
In order to ensure product integrity during shipping, handling, and warehousing, The Save Mart Companies requires its suppliers to comply with
federal product packing and transportation regulations (e.g., Department of Transportation regulations).
The Save Mart Companies asks its suppliers and suppliers to conform to the following pallet specifications:
- 48” x 40” GMA Class 1 wood pallet, unless otherwise specified
- Rental/re-use pallets – all must meet The Save Mart Companies pallet specifications
- 48” x 40” notched stringer with two-way entry for pallet jacks and four-way entry for fork tines; flush non-reversible, multiple-use 3 stringer pallet
- Configuration:
- Top - minimum 7 boards nominal 4-inch boards or 6 nominal 6-inch boards
- Bottom - minimum 5 boards nominal 4-inch
- Decking is minimum 5/8 inch (.625 cm) and stringers are minimum 1-1/4 inch (1.25 cm)
- Clean, free of debris (including bug and rodent remnants), odor, stains and brand marks
- Constructed of mixed density hardwoods; all components must be securely fastened with all nails cleanly driven
- Metal plates are acceptable using NWPCA guidelines for pallet plating; no double runners or blocks on stringers
- Imported pallets must be heat treated or fumigated – ISPM 15 Labeling Required
